I have a 1957 F100 custom cab. It has a 272 Y block. I just bought it and it hasnt been driven in a few years so I wanted to clean the carb. My 1st question is how do I know what carb would work on the motor if I wanted to replace it with a new one. The old carb is the orginal and I need to find gaskets/parts ect. The numbers on the carb are as follow.....C3TFK, B3HE Those are the numbers on the ford tag mounted to the carb. Stambed on the carb is 1.02. Any help with information on the carb/ motor would be greatly app. Thank you guys in advance
If you are going to tear it apart to clean you might as well put a rebild kit in it. They are not that complicated. NAPA can usually get most rebuild kits. Give them all the info you can.
Kel,welcome to FTE,and congrats on your 57.If you go to any good auto parts store,( like a NAPA or an independent that has been open for the last 30 -or-so years)they can get you a reman.'d carb.Keep the one you have for rebuilding, rebuild kits are easy to find, and keep it for a spare.I can't tell you what carb you have from the numbers, but probably a Holly 2-barrel.
If you're able, post some photos of your truck, including the carb.Someone may recognize which carb you've got.
And since it's been sitting,it really is advisable to drain all the old gas,and if there is much rust/dirt,clean the tank, don't want to pump any crud into your new carb.
thanks for the help. I have taken care of all the fluids and gas lines filters and such. Just wanted to now where I could get the carb parts for a rebuild. I will hit up napa thanks again.
The Wiki article says the 2100 Autolite was the only 2-bbl carb used from '57-on. Not that Wiki articles are "always" right...
(sigh) As usual, Wiki is FOS, because Ford purchased Auto-Lite in 1961!
Beginning in 1962, Ford began installing Auto-Lite carbs on I-6 & V8 Passenger Cars/Trucks. Holley's and Carter's continued to be used for other applications.
In 1972, Ford was forced by the US Gov't to sell Auto-Lite, as the Gov't claimed Ford had a monopoly on auto parts.
Ford then started in-house brand Motorcraft, the Auto-Lite parts and the part numbers then became Motorcraft.
