My 98 Expedition just started acting like the transmission is slipping when trying to accelerate on a cold start up. It sounds like as if it has a heavy load it's pulling, moving slowly forward. If I let my foot off the brake, it barely moves forward just as if it has a load. Other than this first start up problem, it has no problems with shifting, slow engagement, or anything. I had no symptoms leading up to this sudden problem that surfaced last night.
I'd also like to know, since the information in the engine compartment does not show it, what part number is the factory replacement plug. I'm not huge on aftermarket and use Ford parts for everything. I am looking at the Motorcraft SP479 and want to make sure this is the correct plug for the 5.4L, or did the engine use a double platinum plug? The engine is a little sluggish as of recently and I would like to address this problem as soon as possible.
I don't know, I bought it from the original owner and he said it was about a year ago but didn't have any records of it. I ended up finding out it will work if I engage 1st gear and take off, then I manually shift up to drive. After that, it's fine with stop and go while leaving it in drive. It's like it's stuck in 3rd or 4th gear on a cold start when putting it in drive.
I just had the check engine light pop up and ran the codes, P0750 - Shift Solenoid, but obviously can't buy this part from the autostore.
