ANyone else have trouble shifting 6 Speed when it is cold out?

My truck has been hating 2nd gear this winter when it gets below 20F I have to shift from 1st to 3rd or pull really hard to get it to shift into 2nd gear. Anyone else have that problem?

During winter I have to drive a block or two before I can even shift out of 1st, but things are fine once it warms up. Are you saying your problem persists even when the engine is completely warm?

Mine is definitely harder to shift when it is cold. But not that hard. You may have a problem developing in your 1-2 shaft.

Once it is warm it is fine but has to warm up a good 5 minutes before it goes away.

How do you count the gears?
Usually the level shows L-1-2-3-4-D
Shifting from low to 1 is always hard for me.

Something you may want to try. When you start the truck_Put the transmission in 4th or 5th with the transfer case in neutral. That way while the engine is warming up so is the tranny. This is what I do in my 92' ZF5(stiff shifting) when the temps get below 15. The ZF6 in the 99' does OK though.

Sorry maybe you misunderstood. The idea is to warm the fluid in the tranny so that it will shift easier. I have found that if you use a higher gear while warming it up it will heat the fluid up faster resulting in easier shifting in all gears.

When it's cold, mine is definately harder to shift into 2nd gear and does take more effort. But it never forced me to skip it. After a little bit of driving it gets normal. Maybe it has to do with the double syncro. I don't think its really a problem, if its shifts normal when warmed up.

Don't forget we're running gear oil, not ATF. My '79 with the New Process 4 speed was the same way - harder to shift when cold. Sometimes it wouldn't go into gear at all.

First off don't pull the shift lever hard to get into 2nd gear, that will wear the syncro. Try double clutching with a touch of throttle on the clutch engagement while in neutral. It's not unusual for the trans.to be stiff when cold.

I generally have a problem going into 3rd, but I think my trans needs to be rebuilt.

But I am also very picky, my friend who has drivin my rig a few times said it works fine.
