Hello all. I just picked up a 2000 Eddie Bauer 4wd with the air suspension. I have done the search thing and have been reading alot about it. I have a couple questions. Is the compressor suppose to run like all the time? Mine seems to run for 5 minutes then shut off for 5-10 minutes then run again. Also it is pretty loud. With the radio turned up you can still hear the compressor running. Thanks.
Mine runs for a minute or so after startup and occasionally during driving around, but not much.
You may have a slow leak requiring more compressor time.
Yes, it is noisy, no mistaking when it is running.
Yeah, the compressor having to come on allot means you have a leak in the air springs. Do this easy test: Get inside, turn the ignition on and let it pump up. Then turn the suspension switch off. Then DRIVE(not just let it sit) the vehicle for "up to" a few days. If the rear goes down....you have a leak.
Your first goal is to repair the leak(s), then keep an eye on it to see if the compressor has any life left in it, by how long it takes to pump up. With just you in the vehicle, it should take less than 30 seconds to pump up to normal ride height. If it takes any longer than that, or if the compressor is really loud, you may want to plan on getting a compressor/dryer soon.
While i'll bet your mounting insulators are gone, I would bet 95% of your noise is coming from inside the compressor.
Thanks for the reply's im going outside to see how long it takes to pump up and check the compressor mounts.
Ok, well first I turned on the switch and started the SUV, the compressor cycled on and off for 10 seconds for about 5 times, then the last time ran for 30 seconds and stopped. I crawled under the back of the truck and noticed the air bags full. I should have looked at them before starting.
The frame is about 1 inch off of the rubber stops on both sides. I turned off the switch and will check the SUV in the morning to see if it went down. As for the noise it seems it is the compressor. If I grab it and push on it, then it quiets down a bit. The mounts seem pretty good. Maybe the compressor was replaced in the past. Who knows. I will check back again tomorrow.
also your air suspinsion seems to run for too long, mine only runs for 30sec and no more
:but i do have one problem mines in the rear
(2wd) you can feel the road too much, i think i might change the shocks first hopfully that will help.
is your the same way?
Those are hard as a rock. If you want to isolate the vibration, call 423-487-4321.
I don't know about those insulators butI have new ones on my Navigator that came from Eddie as well as one of his compressors and I can't hear it running even with the hood open and standing there looking at it.
You will get good parts, prices and advice from American Air Suspension. I say this from experience.

I would add to this comment; your compressor may be faulty (noise) and also not checking the pressure from running back into the compressor (leak). I'm not sure how the plumbing is set up on this vehicle, but it's just my thought based upon experience.

On these systems, theres a solenoid on each air spring that keeps the air in. In other words, if the air spring wasn't leaking, there would be no reason for the compressor to come on....other than right after startup.
just went over this on my 00 exp under the berak master sylinder is a plastic pushlock union i replaced it with a 3/16 brass union this is for the rear, then under the frount cross member (mine has a metal gard that i removed to make it easer) is a y new o rings i put teo new and one old on each line with a little white lube. no leaks
