I have a 30 amp fusible link between my selonoid and alternator, and the fuses only last about two weeks or so. They are not blowing out, but are actually melting. Does anyone know what is causing this? -TIA-
Your fusible links don't really, "blow out". They will get hot, melt the insulation, then break when they pass the current rating. All they basically are is a wire about 4 sizes smaller than they should be. So I think your link is doing what it's suppose to. I don't know what year rig you have, but my 85 bronco shows a 16 Ga. wire for a 50 amp alt. and a 14 Ga. for the 70 amp alt.
First thing I would probably do was make sure I've been getting the right link wire and feel some of the wiring around the solenoid. Sometimes you can trace a short or overloaded wire by feeling the heat.
If your fusible link is the right size, then something is drawing a bunch of current. I would guess it would be something on a keyed power source, since you didn't say you had any dead battery problems.
Is all your electrical stuff acting OK? Other than the link, that is
