I have a 05 f350 srw. My exhaust pipe has cracked almost all the way around on the weld next to my catalytic converter. I am thinking about just having it replaced with a straight pipe. Possibly even removing the muffler. I do a lot of heavy pulling, probably even more than what the pickup is designed for. What kind of problems might I face in going to a straight pipe? What are the benefits? Do I have to do anything to the ECM to remove any codes from going to a straight pipe? Any Advice would be welcomed. Also I dont particularly want the noise that a straight pipe makes, is there anything that can reduce the noise that is not restrictive on the exhaust?
If you don't have emissions inspections then do it . It will lower EGT temps which is good when towing. And the noise is not to bad under normal driving hard to tell the diff , but when you get on it you will hear it . My opinon do it you will like it..Also taking off cat and putting on preforance muffler will keep noise down .

Anything you put in the exhaust system will cause SOME restriction, but if you replace the factory exhaust system with one that has mandrel bent, kink free tubing, it helps. You could replace the factory muffler with a smaller, more efficient one and it won't be obnoxiously loud like straight piping will be.
Straight piping a 6.0 is not obnoxiously loud.....
They will sound good, and like mentioned will lower egt temps
stick to a 3.5 inch down pipe so you lose no bottom end power
I guess 'obnoxiously' isn't the right word! I guess it is all perspective, I didn't like the straight pipe we did on a couple of my friends's trucks, but they were still quieter than my 496 CI Big Block Nova is, and it HAS mufflers!
Some of my neighbors probably think it is obnoxiously loud!
The stock system is a 3" down pipe, then at the flange to the cat, it increases to 3.5". This means that the delete pipe is 3.5"
So with delete pipes, it will ba a stright line exhaust system with 3" down pipe to 3.5". This set up will have more low end then the larger sized exhasut systems.
When you do a straight pipe, you will lose some low end, but the delelet pipes loses the least.
For sound, start with the muffler delete and see how you like that. Then you can deside to get the cat delete pipe.
You will bairly notice the cat delete pipe with the muffler still on. Have a friend weld the crack. The muffler delete pipe will have more of an effect on the truck for lowering egt's and sound, than the cat delete pipe.

I wasnt trying to push buttons lol...
Im on my phone and didnt type as much as i wanted too....
I wanted to compare a 6.0 straight piped to lets say a cummins straight piped...that is obnoxious....
I could only imagine what your neighbors think...haha

I wasn't bent Tyler, just thinking about how I said it! I drove an old Peterbilt conventional years ago (it reminded me of the truck in the old Steven Spielberg movie 'Duel') it was fun to drive, had no P/S, no A/C, no front brakes, a normally aspirated 220 HP Cummins, straight piped.... and it was SOOOOO LOUD!
