Did the 6637 mod, now its time for exhaust. I dont want to spend huge money on it plus i have the bulk exhaust pipe..However whats the difference between mbrp kit and a straight pipe other than looks and has the straight through muffler to baffle some noise? Over time will a straight pipe cause damage? Not used to diesels quite yet!!
thanks kris
Straight pipe will not harm a diesel at all. Gas motors need some back pressure, but diesels do not.
Your stock pipes are 3.5", most aftermarket kits are 4" for our trucks. 4" is plenty big and even 3.5" is probably good for most trucks that aren't modified a lot.
If you keep the stock exit location you won't notice a noise level change with straight pipe unless the window is down. I suggest getting a 3" downpipe, either get rid of your Cat or gut it, and get rid of the muffler.
Where I am in NC you have to have a muffler, so I have a 3" downpipe, no Cat, 4" pipe exiting right behind the cab with a 4" glasspack muffler. Doesn't change the sound at all but it makes it legal for NC.
