What would you do?

Hey Guys,
I need some advice because I've been debating this for 6 months now. As most of you know my truck is tuned and has given absolutely zero problems for 115,000km's now. I originally bought a 5yr 160,000km B2B warranty which is still valid. I'm now considering purchasing the 7yr 300,000km Diesel Care engine warranty but am not sold on it yet. The cheapest place I've found up here wants $4000 for it. I know I can get it cheaper in the US but the US plan covers way less items than the Canadian plan does. So my question is would you purchase it or save the money for potential problems down the road? I also have to consider the very real chance that something will fail and I'll get denied warranty due to my tuner. I plan on keeping the truck until roughly 250,000km because it's been an amazing truck since day 1 and has not given me 1 reason to question it. I appreciate your opinions and advice on this one.
Thanks

In your situation, if you plan to keep the tuner installed, I would pass on the $4000 investment and put it in the bank for a rainy day. The engine and transmission are the main reasons to pay for an expensive warranty and if you are going to be denied all of those claims due to the tuner it is not worth it. Power window motors and other items are expensive to fix but not $4000 worth. Just my 2 cents for your situation.

Put the money in the bank. You have owned the truck from new, broke it in and it sounds like 250,000 should not be a problem. As you already know, maintenance is the key.

Thanks for the reply's. that is what I have been leaning towards myself. I should have mentioned that I can write off the warranty purchase through my business which makes it more economical. I think I'll hold on to the money in the end and just enjoy driving the truck. Thanks Again

Your asking a very good question.... And i will be in your situation eventually I did however already purchase an extended warranty about 9 months ago. And I am tuned now. However. I feel if i have a huge problem that is not related to my tune, that if i took off the tune and pipe, i feel the dealer will not be allowed to void my warranty. Law does state that the warranty cannot be voided unless it is proven that it caused a problem to that part, or parts. However, if they void it off the bat, then it will be lots of fighting. But, if you put it all back to stock, and what if a tech doesn't realize it was ever tuned and things were fixed with no questions asked?

That is the exact question I am fighting with right now. If 6 injectors failed due to a bad batch of fuel and I returned it all to stock and had it covered under warranty then it would easily make the warranty worth while. I have 45,000km to make the decision and my mind is not made up yet. The huge expense of cab off repairs on these trucks make me lean towards the warranty but the chance that it could get voided either way makes me think it's a stupid purchase. There is no right answer and I guess in the end I take the same chance I did the first day I tuned the truck knowing it could void my warranty.

I'm a little nervous about owning this thing with no warranty myself, I've got another 1 -1.5 years to go but I think I'll probably get rid of the truck when the warranty runs out.(not sure though)

I'm thinking y'all have thought of this but just in case you haven't I'll say it. Unless you never leave your home town a failure on the road will preclude returning the truck to stock for repairs. i rarely drive mine at home so the odds are very long that if it breaks it will break on the road.

Well first of all, I would NEVER pay for the warranry up front in full. All of these warrantys can be paid over 1, 2 or 3 years depending on which you take. They are also all zero interest, so it does not cost you more paying it over time. The reason to also do this is, not only to save your lump of cash, but if 6 months into your warranty you have a failure, and they are idiots and do not want to cover it under warranty, and they void your warrnaty, then you simply STOP making the payment on your extended warranty. So they only have 6 months of your paymentw, and not the full 4 grand for them not helping you out.

Good info guys,
StanleyZ that is a valid point but I rarely drive my truck more than 1000km from home so if it did happen to fail at the far end of that journey I would simply pay the tow bill or get a buddy to come get me with another diesel and a flat deck.
ETKMS, that is also a great point and I was not aware that a guy could finance the warranty. I will look into that further and that might be the best route to take.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.
Cheers
