Hey guys, I got a 92 f150 custom 5spd. I went to start it today, put the key in, and the key turns with no power. There's no tension between the off, run, or start position.
So I need your awesome FTE help guys . What's broke and how do I fix it? I think it's the ignition lock cylinder, but I don't know. on top of that, I have no experience with steering columns.
p.s. I did a search, and I couldn't find anyone that quite had my problem.
so what are we working with is there any power at all to the cab? im not trying to be a smart a$$ but is ur battery dead give us some details please. Is it just your truck not starting is there any noises or anything?
My Battery isn't dead, I have bright headlights and stuff. I guess you could say I'm not getting power to the cab (minus the dome light), but when I put the key in and turn it, it feels like nothing grabs. from off, to run, to start there's nothing, the key just spins. There's a little tension when I turn it back to acc. but I get no power. It's definitely something with the ignition on the column, I just don't know which specific part, and how to get it out and replace it.
I feel like a to this, I normally hang out in the 73-79 area (things are much simpler)
when you turn the key do the headlights dim? does the warning lights show up when you click the key forward? have you checked all your fuses inside the cab and under the hood? it could be your ignition starter switch or your starter solenoid. Id hope for the started solenoid cuz its mounted right on your fender. the ignition starter switch is in your column and its a pita.
Just a little update. I was talking to a buddy of mine that had quite a few of these trucks. I told him what it was doing and right away he had a guess for it. Here I broke the tab that comes out of the tumbler, or the 'ignition cylinder' (I think that's what it's called). Pulled it all out today and picked up a new one, a pretty simple fix.
