i have a 1976 ford f150 4x4 and when i go mudding the engine and bay get covered has anybody made a good shroud to keep most of it out? and please post pictures if you've made some
An option is to make your own. I've been toying with the idea on my 4x4 but haven't got around to it. Here's my idea:
Identify the areas and openings to "seal" or at least shield from mud.
Make templates out of posterboard or cardboard and cut the shapes out of rubber mats/walkway runners (Source: HD or Lowe's, etc.)
Buy or salvage lots of those plastic push-in fasteners that hold the factory splash shields in place.
Mark and drill the holes in the inner fenders every five inches or so and attach.
But here's the catch, the rubber liners need to function like roof flashing or roof shingles. Therefore, secure the upper edge of the rubber liners on the inside (engine compartment) of the inner fenders so the mud is shed down from each preceding surface. If they are mounted from the outside side (lined and fastened from the wheel well side), the upper lip of the liners will tend to catch mud and defeat the whole purpose.
thanks number dummy but I don't wanna spend that much on something that has more of a chance of getting torn up and that's a good idea silver if you get yours done before me can you post some pictures
What gaps there are will be easy to fill with some scraps of like material and a few of those plasic rivet like things they use now to hold plastic parts on newer vehicles, the kind where you insert the rivet like in a hole through both and then insert a center pin to expand them which locks them in place. The gaps which you cover like so are the ones that make it easier to replace the spark plugs on the right rear side of the engine so good to have them removable.
