I recently bought this new crown victoria and i love the v8 under the hood... the auto trans is wonderful with it... but i was wondering if its possible to swap out the auto trans for a manual transmission?
The "If you have to ask..." rule applies here. IMO this would be a bad idea, and would probably result in the car being scrapped.
ON THE OTHER HAND, you will have to figure out how to make the ECU stop wondering where the transmission is.
Then, a trans, something like a TKO. You need a bell, about $500 for an aftermarket scattershield, or adapt one IF you can find one for your motor. Then you have to make your own brake/clutch pedal set up. If you have a column shifter, tidy that up or let it lay there like a dead dog. Hole in the floor, drive shaft adjustments and you're ready to start breaking ring gears, snapping necks and banging gears.
its a 1998 police package crown vic... i like the auto but i was just wondering how much trouble it would be to make it manual because i would just love to rip through the gears an burnout every takeoff but if its too much trouble ill just keep it as a auto

Of course it's possible. It is possible to do in ANY car or truck. Is it easy or inexpensive? Of course not. It will cost far more to do this than you paid for the car.
