I have a 78 f150 which I bought with a installed 460. I added factory air to it and through much research and error pretty much have it wrapped up but I have run into aproblem with the a/c idler pulley mounted down by the power steering pump. from all the ones I have seen it looks like it comes off a spacer mounted to the power steering bracket but on my truck mounted there it is too far over to the right side to come in contact with the belt. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. to the best of my knowledge all the brackets are the right ones for a 460 only thing i guessed at was the pulley and spacer that I got . thanks
Here is the illustration of what your set up should look like, this is from the Ford parts catalog.
The idler pulley you should have is part number D0AZ-8678-B.
The idler should have one of the following engineering numbers on it, D0AA-8A617-B, D3AH-8A617-AA or D4OH-8A617-AA.
I located three of them.
Antique Auto Arlington, Arlington, TX has one (817) 275-2381
Perogie Enterprises, Hightown, NJ has one (609) 448-5593
NOS Parts Source, Olathe, KS has one (913) 220-5746
Thank you gentlemen for responding to my question. The system I have was removed from a 79 Bronco which was a factory installed unit. I originaly modified the 351 brackets to work but I found and installed a 460 a/c compressor and tensioner and power steering brackets on truck. Now that I have dne that I can order a a/c belt from napa and it actualy fits. The problem now stems from my homemade spacer running off the powersteering bracket for the lower a/c idler pulley that now does not make contact with the belt. It is too far to the right and for the life of me I dont know how too correct it!
I just got done with a simple 1.5 week water pump replacement on my 76 F-250 with a 460 & factory AC. One thing leads to another and while I was in there might as well........replace york with Sanden AC compressor, etc, find a new backplate for the water pump (it was pitted through with rust), change thermostat housing, put on a fan clutch, etc......
Anyway, I've got it almost together and can't figure out where the heck the D3AH-8A617-AA bracket mounts up. From your conversation above, I figure its an idler pully bracket/assembly? Cant figure out from Diagram how to mount the darn thing- if anyone has a pic, much appreciated
Hi, here is a pic- figured out the reason I could not get it back on, is that it never came with the pulley (PO must have removed, so was spending all my time looking for the darn wheel) - anyone know where to get one?
It looks like the pulley in the picture has D3AH-8A617-AA stamped on it. That crosses over to the LH idler pulley for 73-up w/ factory air and a 460. So that sounds correct.
Pulley assy., Idler, marked D3AH-8A617-AA
P/N D0AZ-8678-A
This is one of those part numbers that, because of the "0" in the part number, can be entered into inventory as either a numeric "0" (correct) or the letter "O" (incorrect). I check both ways.
There are quite a few of these around.
Green Sales, Cincinnati, OH has 26 under the "O" part number (800) 543-4959
The Lincoln/Mercury Old Parts Store, Clearwater, FL has 3 under the "0" part number (727) 445=7551
Wesley Obsolete Parts, Liberty, KY has 4 under each part number (probably the same 4). (606) 787-5293
Klimesh Motor Sales, Calmar, IA has 3 under the "O" number (563) 562-3241
There are other dealers with the part also.
dumb question, but does the pulley press into the idler arm, or bolted on? I have the bracket/arm, just need the pulley, so if that D0AZ8678A part number is the pulley, I'm guessing I could get the cheapest one around and toss the idler bracket in the scrap pile and just use the pulley

The pulley only comes as an assembly. It includes the mounting bracket.
My understanding is the pulley and bracket are pressed together and is considered unrepairable.
