Hi guys, i have a 1992 ford f150, 2WD with the 5.0l 302. i recently noticed that when i give the truck alot of throttle to get up to speed, the transmission will shift twice from 2nd into 4th. this only happens when I accelerate quickly. when i take my time getting up to speed, it works perfectly. The truck only has 85,000 miles so its strange that it would have a transmission issue like this. is it possible that it is just the way the truck is geared?
Do you mean it shifts from 2nd directly into 4th, skipping 3rd? When was the last time the tranny fluid was flushed and filter changed? That would be my first step, flush and change the filter.
The truck reads no codes transmission related as far as i can tell. Fluid and filter is defiantly where ill start. is the truck safe to run until i fix this, or should i leave it where it sits?
Now that I re-read this I'm confused. You're complaining that there are two shifts from second to fourth? Shouldn't it shift 2-3 and then 3-4? Isn't that two shifts?
yes, when i give it a lot of throttle, it almost shifts straight from 2nd, to 4th. only grabbing 3rd for a very brief period of time. (like 1/6 of a second). Im not sure if this is normal, or if the tranny is slipping.
