Video: What causes this? Turbo surge?

Any one know what causes this? If I had to name it, it sounds like a flutter to me.

Sounds like turbo surge to me... gonna need a wicked wheel or a new compressor housing to cure it.

I have added annotations on the video to show the flutters.

I would also like to know if this is "bad"

Mine ONLY does it when I am WOT at around 20-25psi. 1-20psi it is smooth sailing on the gauge.

If I remember correctly it damages the shaft, causing pre-mature bearing/turbo failure.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... but thats what I remember reading.

I know you can get the WW CHEAP from XDP... and they have a sale going on right now.

It's not good... can result in a turbo failure

Ok. A quick search has turned up 3 compressor wheels.

Bog Warner: Riffraff Diesel: Borg Warner Anti-Surge Compressor Wheel
e99 Wheel (no link found)
XDP: Xtreme Diesel's X-Wheel Compressor Wheel

Any differences or any one better than the other? I'm leaning to XDP

Ok cool. XDP it is then. Just not right now. School has sucked me dry of money. Plus registration is due next month and I got a ticket

But that one is my fault.

Do you have to take the turbo off to do it?
