They are correct about the 5.0/5.8L intake air tube. It is a poor design. The I6/7.5L design that draws in fresh air from behind the grille is a much better design.

Flipping the filter box lid is not a good idea, it draws in HOT air from the engine compartment. I would not recommend it to 4 out of the 5 dentists that I know

i tried something similar, just didn't flip the box. great off the bat when the truck is cold, but once your truck warms up its worse than before. however, if you look at the snorkel removed from the box, the opening is tiny in comparison to the rest of the snorkel as well as the opening it snaps into on the filter box. so before i reinstalled it i cut off the end that is inside the box where it narrows down with a box cutter. feels better, but that could just be in my head but it sounds better and that enough for me

Iowan, I'll bet if you go to the junkyard you could find one. I'm sure it's the same as the 5.0's snorkel, except for the fact that it's probably shaped differently/longer so it can sit behind the grill.

- lol Jaime that made me laugh

More hot air vs less cool air. The snorkle is BS, maybe just a cheap re-design of the inlet.

BTW we PSD owners do something similar when we ditch the air box and add a cylindrical filter underhood.
