Leaving for vacation tomorrow, STARTING PROBLEMS!!!!!!
Have already posted this in the Superduty forum but was told to post it here also.
It has happened to me twice in the last week. Go to start the truck gauges pop up like normal and after about 2 seconds, gauges dim and the drop dead just like I took out the key. If I go to turn it over after that then it cranks maybe once and it dead. Have tried to jump it when the problems shows it self and it will take at least 5 min before it will start. You can tell if it is going to crank if the gauges hold. I have two brand new batteries, new cables, and new alternator all last winter. Drove the truck 3 days in between it happening last time, probably shut the truck off and on 25 times. I am at a total loss. Maybe and ignition switch, or starter solenoid or something? Seems like a connection issue somewhere. Any help would be great.
Do you have an original "black" CPS? If you do, that is your likely culprit. While they were the best CPS design for efficient running of the engine, Ford changed them because they would go out on you at a moment's notice...and have all sorts of weird symptoms like this.
Look for "CPS" or "Cam Position Sensor" to get instructions...takes 5 minutes to check with a 10mm wrench (to remove).
Sounds like you have a poor connection somewhere that powers everything.
Try swapping the power supply relays around and see if that helps.
That's all I know to say.
I don't have any good suggestions other than to check and see if your chip is loose. I hear it's recommended that you have your keys out of the ignition while messing with that thing.

leave them in the house...locked in a safe... under 24 hour surveillance while you are messing with that thing
Kwikkordead, are you talking about the power relays in the fuse box? And if so which ones are they?
Gchavez and vegasfordsd, I have a PCM burn by dp tuner, not a chip so that is not a problem.
Also forgot to mention that I did take the truck to auto zone and they hooked up the truck and said that the alternator was putting out 13.8 volts all the time.
One of the batteries is bad, I had less then year old batteries in my truck when it was doing the EXACT SAME THING to me, if i drove it everyday it was fine, but if it sat more then 2 days it would have to be jumped to start. Make sure to replace/warranty them both and you should be good to go, I know I was. I have had no problems since then.
Alright, stopped and had the batteries checked. They 850 CCA batteries, drivers side was 835 and passenger side was 736. Passenger side was low but I don't think it would be low enough to cause a issue. What do you guys think? Problem is I know they are under warranty but it still tested good so I don't know if they are going to do anything with it right now.
It is still warmer enough to start with out it. unhook the GPR for now so you will not have power drain there. It sounds as if you have a short or a lack of ground somewhere. Did you test your starter?
