I am using a Carter 4 brrl on a 390 in my 69 f100. It Idles fine, starts ok, and is probably still in need of a little tuning, but when I give that little first little touch of fuel, it sputters and almost dies unless I feather the pedal. I am getting prety good at keeping it running, but would like to fix it now.
I am using a new open type spacer on my 4 barrel intake which has split sections that look like an oval and a kidney(like 08).
I do not know if the problem is the:
spacer
gaskets
accel pump on carb
Anyone else dealt with this type of problem before?
A new carb might be the answer since the one I have has been modified (secondary weight was shaved to open faster).
I just rebuilt my 2bbl that was doing the exact same thing. The Accelerator pump was shot; the metal piece in the center was taco'd and the diaphragm was tearing. Tossed a new one on and it revs just fine. I also found that my needle was not attached to the float...maybe check that out also...
I did have to adjust my mixture also...you may be running a little lean like I was. Does it backfire out the carb when you really nail it?
Good luck
