ECT HIGHER than EOT

My truck is an 05 Excursion 6.0PSD with 85K miles.
Stock everything - exhaust, intake, etc. except I have a coolant filter.
I use an Edge Evolution as a guage.

I have noticed on start up and for the first 15+/- minutes of driving that my ECT is HIGHER than my EOT by about 10 degrees. As the engine gets to normal operating temp between 190 and 210, the ECT and EOT level out but it is not uncommon for the ECT to be 2-5 degrees hotter than the EOT. Ambient air was about 95 degrees in Denver (high elevation).

I drove today at 65 mph for about 10 miles and the ECT and EOT both stayed at 192 the entire 10 miles.

Pulled my 7500# trailer home tonight and noticed the ECT and EOT were generally the same, but occaisionally the ECT would be hotter than the EOT.

My EGR Valve and Oil Intercooler were replaced about 5,000 miles ago and I have not had this problem until now.

I talked with a very well respected diesel mechanic today at the Ford dealer and he told me not to worry as long as the temps did not approach the upper acceptable limit. I looked at him like he was crazy...but he said not to worry.

Does this sound normal? Does any one else ever see their ECT higher than their EOT for more than a few minutes at a time?

Any advice on diagnosing this issue?

Thanks for your help.

From your post the other day I thought that it was worse

But what you describe sounds normal

If I smash the pedal for a min ECTs go up a litttle faster than the oil or EOTs

but at a steady 75-80mph after things stabil;ize ECT 195* and EOT 205*
so a 10* spread with oil being hotter

but say if I go up a hill ECTs will pass EOTs but the two temps will stay close together during heavy throttle like 1-4* close
just cause the engine coolant does more than cool the oil

If your ECTs shot way above EOTs
like 230 ECT and 210 EOT and ALWAYS STAYED like this then youd have an issue

As stated in other threads, it can take as much as 20 miles for all the temps to normalize or saturate. It doesn't look like the OP has a problem to me.

A deezle's block is MASSIVE to control the pressures needed to fire it....

No temp comparison is of any use until it 'warms up'

it takes a lot of heat to warm the block before it is stabilized..

and a coolant filter also adds to the variables.... Your fine ! enjoy - be happy
