Looking at another truck

Ok, ive been pretty active on here with my 04 with 105,000 miles. Well my dealership just called me and they have a 06 with 60,000 miles with the 5.4. Mine has the 4.6 so when people talk about the 5.4's on here i dont really get into the details. By 06 were alot of the cam phaser and spark plug problems taken care of by then? Im just really leary about the 5.4s since i have my 4.6 and have not had a engine type problem. Just want to know what to look for on the 5.4s. As far as the rest of the truck, due to my current truck and experiences, im pretty good everywhere else, lol!

Thanks guys

By LATE 06 some of the phaser issues become less prominent. There are still some early 06 with those issues that 04 and 05 reported. My 06 is a December 05 build date. Bought it last year with 29k and just rolled 42k last week. She's still pretty quiet (knock on wood) even with Mike's tunes.

The plug problems weren't addressed until late 07 IIRC, with the new head design. Those newer engines have brown COPs instead of black...I think.

See if the dealership will cut you a deal on a full coverage warranty? Most problems should come up within the 100-125k mark and maybe they can throw it in? Worth asking at least...good way to find out how badly they WANT to sell a vehicle.

The plug issue is probably less of a hassle than we all think it to be. Certainly less than the IWE system you so lovingly know all about

Ya, being the last day of the month, this guy seems real anxious to move this truck. I might go drive it tonight and see. Here are some of the pics. Nothing fancy but, im not digging those stick on things below the fender emblem.

And by the way i figure it, and the miles i drive, by the time im ready to trade it in, ill be right at the 100k mile mark, so i wouldnt have to worry about plugs, unless a problem arises in the mean time.

The front end has taken a hit...unless the pics are lying to me. Check out the body/bumper gap on the front end...it tapers.

I thought about that too...the light playing tricks, and that's highly possible. CarFax might not pick it up (it DID NOT report a small hit on my wife's TSX) but it's a good start.

Ok, i passed, cam phasers ticking away, everytime on start up for about 10 seconds. No matter how warm or cold the engine was. The same every time. Nice truck though, and the bumper looked fine when i saw it in person. I wasnt really looking to do anything right now any way, but if it was worth it i probably would have done it.

Thanks though

Good call to step away. Mine tick on cold start up...but less and less now that I'm running full synthetic, and for only 1-2 seconds then they shut up completely.

Ya this one sounded like a card in the radiator fan for 10+ seconds until high idle backed off.
