The driver side door on my 95 F-150 is having problems. It doesn't shut right and you can see daylight up by the vent window and the wind noise is really bad. I think that the pin and bushing needs to be replaced. Has anyone done this before? I'm curious how hard it is or if you have to just replace the entire hinge. I know you can buy the pin/bushing repair kit for a few bucks. Thats alot cheaper than 75 bucks a peice for hinges from the Ford dealer. Some one please tell me this is an easy fix. All replies are welcome though.
go get the help book, they have it at autozone,or pep boys, they sell the pins and bushings.i just had mine done at work and the fun part is getting the pin out.a air chisel will cut them off and drive them out with a long punch.the door has to come off to put the bushings in,but once there in,the door will need to be tweaked a little.check the plastic on the striker pin also.if it is chewed up a little,it should be replaced also.
Junkyard hinges are $10-40/pair, and easier to put in. Just pull all the bolts (about 6) that hold the back edge of the fender against the cab & it's really easy to get to all the hinge bolts & align the door.
pins and bushings are easy to do aswell
cut the pin in the middle and push the top half out the top put the new top bushing in place and start the new pin from the top down
once you have the new one in half way push the bottome half of the old one down replace bushing push new pin in put on the snap ring and your done
once you have new pins and bushings you may not need to re align the door
might cost you all of 10 bucks
Hey everyone thanks for the input. I'll probably go ahead and replace the pins and bushings some time during the Thanksgiving break. The salvage yard hinge idea sounds like it might be just as good of an idea though. I'll think about for a day or so. Either way, at least my door will work right again. Thanks
