I there, I usually use this site for my 54 f100, but I have a question about my 1994 F150 4X4...It has a 5 speed manual trans...I never had any trouble with it until last night...I went to shift into 3rd and nothing...I went then shifted into 4th just fine...came to a stop light and geared down...upon starting back up...not only did third not work but now no 4th gear...I still have 1st, 2nd 5th and reverse...no noise was made during loss of shifting...is this a fliud issues or something BIG!...thanks guys
You may have lost the synchros or maybe the shift linkage is getting sloppy??
I also read that the light duty 5 speed has a weird gear setup where a couple or 3 gears are essentially on the same path(shaft?? I don't really know what I am talking about here) and when you lose the output of that shaft, you lose those gears but not the others.
I doubt it would be a fluid issue with a manual unless you were making metal shavings by the hand full.
Just nudged this to see if someone with real experience speaks up.
The light duty (Mazda) 5 speed is known for shift fork issues.. I don't know exactly what they are, but I have read several posts here on FTE about it...
I at least got it back to the top for you, maybe someone who knows more will see it and tell you more...

Well I pulled the shifter and found that all the seals and PLASTIC yes plastic cups are worn thin or not there...I think the PO had done some work and not replaced the parts...really bummed, but I can get 3rd and 4th now......beats 100$ for a diognostic and then another whatever for more un needed parts...
