On my 56 does the ignition key also work on the door lock? Did ford use one key or two? The ignition key will go into the door lock but it won't turn. And why do I only have a key lock on the passenger door? Is that normal?
Welcome to FTE,
Yes there are two keys for the trucks( 1door, 1 ignition). The lock was standard on the passenger side for safety. You got in and out on the curb side so as not to be standing in the street. The driver door was an option and can be ordered through the aftermarket. Mid Fifty F-100 Parts - Home has them.

so I guess I need to get a new lock and key for the door or have the lock re-keyed
I'm in the same boat. I have an ignition key, but no door key.
I also only have the pass side door lock. When I get to that stage of resto; I plan on just buying a pair of reproduction locks. You get the key, new lock, and can retro-fit a new lock to the driver's side.
