I had a strange lock issue today that I have never had before. I had my driver key cylinder replaced after the latest break in on Wednesday, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the issue, I just wanted to throw that out there. Now, I always lock the truck the same way; I turn the truck off, get out, press the lock button on the driver door, and close the door. I never use the remote to lock. It worked this way forever, and even worked that way when I got to work today. No problem. However, when I arrived home this evening, I turned the truck off, removed the key from the ignition, opened the door, got out, pressed the lock button, the dooor locked, and then unlocked in about one second. I thought WTF, so I pressed the lock button again, and the door locked, only to unlock in one second. I ended up just pressing down the lock manually and closing the door. What is causing this all of a sudden? I know some have talked about the newer trucks having a feature to where the driver door will do this if the key is in the ignition. Mine does not. In fact, in the past, I have locked the truck in this manner with the truck running. I really want to know what is going on and how to rectify it.
check your windshield and see if it's leaking onto the fuse box and/or the BCM. The truck shouldn't be doing that unless you are accidentally hitting the button on the FOB...or you have a short somewhere.
The truck is supposed to do this if the key is in the ignition. Perhaps the key-in-ignition switch in the lock cylinder has failed. If that were the case, you should be hearing a warning chime also.
Okay, I went out to check it out today. I unlocked the door with my key and opened the door. I pressed the lock button, the door locked, then unlocked again. I thought about what dchamberlain said, so I put the key in the ignition, turned to ON, then back OFF, removed the key, and pressed the lock button again. This time the door stayed locked. I guess when I pulled the key from the ignition last night, what ever sensor or whatever didn't disengage, causing this problem. So, I guess my truck does have the 'won't lock with the key in the ignition', I just never noticed it as the only times I have locked the truck with the key in was when it was running, and thereby the key in the 'ON' position, which disables the unlock feature. I am glad that it wasn't a problem.
