This thread went the wrong way from the beginning. Let's start over. Your truck doesn't run, or it doesn't charge? Forget about the choke thing for now, it should not keep it from starting. Let us know what the problem is.
Choke lead plugs into the alternator pigtail which should go to the "S" terminal on the alternator. Very interesting, my 1986 F350 with a 460 came with a 65amp internal regulator alternator. If you blow some of the internal diodes (there are 9) you get what you are describing.
Ive been wieghing my options with this old truck and decieded Im not going to fix it.THe old thing is has alot of cancer on it.The cab corners are gone along with the rocker panels, both floor boards have rust holes in it the bed is all rusted out and the tags are up in november. This old truck was my very first truck and I wanted to fix it up but it will cost way to much moey.I have found way better looking trucks on craigslist.I want thank everyone for trying to help me but in all reality the truck itself is beyond help.
Choke should have NO power unless the alternator is turning.
This "feature" is so you can leave it to warm up, and if it stalls the choke won't open.
Without vacuum pulling a little air through the cap the bimetal coil spring will overheat and burn out.
