Lubing the shift linkage??

Hello again everyone,

Thanks to all of you who helped me get the door panel off. Next question:

My service manual sez "Lube the shift linkage" about every 6000 miles or so.

Are they talking about in the column, or where? Is there linkage under the truck to the tranny that I can get to and actually lube?

Lubing the shift linkage??

On the side of the transmission is the shift lever. It has a ball on it that the shifter cable attaches to. You can pop the cable off and lube the ball or just spray it with some spray lube and it will be fine. There is the same sort of thing under the dash too but since it's inside I dont think that lubing it will help much as it stay's clean and dry.
I dont think I know anyone that ever lubes their shift linkage and it doesnt seem to cause any problems but i guess it cant hurt to lube it once in a while.
