91 3.0L trouble codes
Hi all! My brother brought me his 91 3.0L Ranger for a tune-up. Generally runs bad and often has the "check engine" light on. I scanned for codes with a cheap code reader and it gives a "code 14 - ignition profile pickup (PIP circuit failure)". Anyone know what this means? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Code 14/211 indicates two successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.
Possible causes:
-- Loose wires/connectors.
-- Arcing secondary ignition components (coil, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc.).
-- On-board transmitter (2-way radio).*
