i have a 2002 f250 5.4 GAS engine and i think my vacuum pump is out. my vents are only blowing out the defrost position.
the other day my ac just stopped blowing. after some detective work i saw that the blower motor wasnt working, so i replaced it. now it only blows out the defrost vents. before the blower motor blew it would blow out the defrost vents only in 4wd and work perfectly in 2wd. im having a hard time finding the vacuum motor cuz im only finding them for the desiel any help guys, and thanks in advance
I believe gas engine is using intake vacuum, but let the gasser owner to confirm.
The flappers working in 2WD and not in 4WD is clear indication that you have vacuum leaking on your front hubs system. You will find few topics covering it already.
im thinking your right it probly has the leak and burnt out the vacuum pump from running constantly. if i replace it would probly burn out again over time. looks like i have to do the leak test and replace the vacuum since its summer. any way to trick it into not being in defrost mode)?? my 4wd works fine. just need ac since im landscaping with this truck.
Are you driving on 4WD all the time? I had problem with my system and even on defrost the AC was pretty efficient.
I guess if you want to mechanically block the flapper to front vents -it is possible, but not easy and high risk of messing something else on the way.
Now you say your 4WD works fine? I don't have 4WD but from what I hear it needs vacuum to engage. Is that possible that you drive in 2WD thinking you have 4WD?
Definitely sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere in the 4x4 system.
However, you said it only blows out the defrost vents even in 2wd after you replaced the blower motor. That seems to indicate that you now have a constant vacuum leak separate from the leak in the 4x4 system. I would check the area around where you were working for a vacuum line that you might have disconnected and forgot to put back or maybe got knocked loose and you didn't notice.
i replaced the vacuum pump and still only blowing out the defrost vents. iv looked at all the lines and checked and double checked them.i checked behind the glove box, engine compartment. when i replaced the vacuum i thught you are supposed to be able to hear it, but i hear nothing. i dont know what to do next. so hotttt and fustrating. ill go check the lines again. millionth time. any more help is greatly appriciated. also update. it wont blow out ac vents in 2wd 4wd nuetral park moving or stopped.
no i drive in 2 wheel. i was just saying that before it all went out. ac motor fried and vacuum pump replaced, it used to go into defrost only when i would put it in 4wd. any clues???
mine is a gas 5.4. when i remove the red line to vacuum it is sucking.i put it on the vacuum and took off the black from the vacuum and nadda. is air blowing from the black line out of vacuum or does it suck?
The vacuum pump doesn't have 3 wires, it has 2. Are you sure what you are looking at is a vacuum pump? It looks like picture #6 in the attachment below.
I don't think what you are looking at is the vacuum pump. I think your truck uses manifold vacuum. What you are describing sounds like the vacuum solenoid for the locking hubs.
Regardless, you have a vacuum problem. Somewhere one of the lines is disconnected or damaged and you're not getting vacuum to the controls, or the controls aren't getting vacuum to the air direction door motors.
You probably need to get your hands on a manual vacuum pump/gauge and start isolating vacuum lines and testing them to see they hold a vacuum. There aren't many lines, if you systematically test each of them you will find the problem.
