Problems with 3" vs lower?

Sorry for the simple question. I'm getting ready to replace the exhaust system on the '73 Bronco, 302 automatic that I bought last summer. I plan to get some headers (deciding now on James Duff or L&L's from Bronco Graveyard) and having the local custom exhaust shop put in new pipe. I'll read through some more forum threads to decide on mufflers (looking for low noise, high torque if such a thing exists) but want to know if 3" pipe is going to cause any problems. I thought that the better the engine breathed the better it would perform, but saw some comments that 3" is too much. I'm looking to make this something of a daily driver, though it is the "third vehicle". Much more fun driving than the subaru though!

For a 302, you do not want dual 3" pipes for any reason, especially not when your main priorities are high torque and low noise. For you, I would recommend 2.25" pipes with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers...... they are good flowing, but that setup will give you just enough resistance to promote good torquey operation, with still good horsepower potential. Or, if your engine is built internally, you could go with 2.5" pipes, although they will be a bit louder, and more of a top-end setup. Also, you could use freer-flowing mufflers, but they will be louder, and again, benefit top end more than torque.
