Rim back spacing?

I'm going to do a 3" James Duff lift on my 89 BII and run 31" 10.50 15R muds. I'm going to get some 15x8 steel rims. What back spacing should I get? I heard 4.5 would be good. I want to turn my wheel clock to clock with out a rub.

Question

Finally someone doing this lift kit. I wanted the hear from someone else before I bought a 3" James Duff kit for my '90 Ranger 4x4. Are 31" tires the largest we can fit? My 235/75R-15 are too small for me and rub a little when turned stop to stop.

3 and 3/4 or less is good.Makes the truck wider too, maintaining stability.A rule i like: Widen as much as you lift.I went 5 inches up and th keep the center of gravity reasonably similar i got some 15x10s with 3 inches of back space. versus the stock rims 4 or so.
