As painful as it may be, go to small claims court. Not sure how much you paid for the truck, but if it's under the limits for small claims, start an action against them for failure to complete the transaction. It is cheap and easy to file, under a hundred bucks. Around here, for $50 extra, instead of the court mailing the notice to the jerks, the county sheriff will take the notice of the action to their houses and nail it to their front door -- trust me, that gets attention!! (And the sheriff doesn't care if it's a $3,000 fancy front door, they WILL use a nail!) Anyway, that forces them to respond, one way or another, and if you actually end up in court (not likely), you will end up with either your money back, or the title.

Don't give up!

Ross is exactly right. I truly believe this boils down to those brothers realize they bought a truck a LONG time ago and never paid a dime in taxes on it. Now they realize that somebody is gonna call them on it, and they're gonna have to back up and pay.

Like I said earlier in this thread, go over to town and talk to the sheriff. I know him personally. I don't care a bit to tell him the side of the story you told me. Like Ross said, a uniformed police officer standing on somebody's porch can indeed be a motivator for people to do the right thing.

Can you not build this as a kit, then have the authorities issue you a new vin#? What are the guys doing out there who buy a manufactured chassis and repop body?

Sure he can get a salvage title. But, mark my word, the second he drives it down the highway as a complete or nearly complete truck, one of those brothers will very likely produce that title and say it belongs to them. This one is going to end up in the hands of the law or some lawyers if these guys don't come to their senses.

They'd have to proove it was their truck wouldn't they? Grind the vin off the frame. Then say the truck was assembled from parts he bought from swap meets etc. It sure seems to be a shame that you have to go through all that bull**** down there.

well one of them is on meds for pretending to be messed up but hes just sorry as hell and has never worked and has that kind of attitude.the other one has alot of property and has recently had some of it stripped by a coal company and he is loaded im serious LOADED. and his lawer is also his buiness partner in the coal operation i cant compete with that.i would love to finish the truck and drive it by them and rub it in there face. but it will never happen.kinda like a jewel sitting in a field with razor wire all around it ,has been this way for years with this truck.i guess i will just let it go and focus on the 50 chevy pickup.i have never been to court or even had a speeding ticket i dont know how that **** works and hate even thinking about it.they live in harlan co and that was where the truck was last titled and taged so i would have to go there and they have all the pull there.i cant describe what kind of shape this trucks in and pics aren't justice thats what makes it even harded.if anyone would be interested in it for parts let me know.i did some research and the frame is from a 55 f-100 not the 53 they said it was by the number on the frame rail. cab has no tag so not sure what it even is.they had a 53 a 55 and a 56 all trying to make one truck from three i have alot of good parts and a 56 grill in mint condition. im so upset from this it really sucks .i will say it again i hope and pray they have the squirts for the rest of there life for doing me this way .

Have you thought about trying to find a frame or parts truck with title and use your parts? Do you have any older salvage yards around the area?. You would be surprised of what is found in the older yards. I've seen frame stacked in past years. chuck

the older salvage yards around here have hauled the old stuff off for scrap.even if used other trucks and titled it that way they could still say it was there truck cause of the title mess.and if i titled it with another truck info im worried that the law might not like it to well.i have people wanting to trade it been offered several things just trying to see whats out there .. if i sell the truck or trade i want it to leave this area so i never see it once its going.everyone around here knows the truck this is a very small area and not to many around here like it. be hard to say it wasn't the same truck if they tried to get it back some how.i am willing to trade it to something else or sell it. doc and a few others are tring to help me but i dont know if its worth the risk trying to fix it here.

You have everything you need except a frame with title. Please don't give up, everyone here is pulling for you. Find another frame, & do the same quality work that you did on the first one. Put these 2 losers out of your mind & finish your project. When you're done, load the old frame up in your new truck & return it to the PO's. Of course, you'll first need to cut it up in several small pieces to fit it in the bed. Highlighting the VIN on (that piece of) the frame would be a nice touch.

Okay dude, take a big deep breath and we'll figure this out. Please DO NOT part that truck out or sell/trade it just yet. Don't worry about those guys. They're not the only ones around here who have "pull". Right is right and wrong is wrong even in Bloody Harlan County. IF I remember correctly, you told me that one of these brothers ripped the tag off the firewall and "scrapped" the title. If that is the case, you just need to apply for a salvage title and let those two guys eat each other if they want. Remember that lady at the courthouse here told you that VIN number was never titled in KY. Yet another strike against them in claiming it was/is their truck. Call me tomorrow and I'll help you brainstorm what to do.

Boy i am interested how this all turns out, but in the meantime DONT give up or sell that truck. You will win in the end, and we are all cheering for you, even down here in Australia. John

got some news the brother that i bought the truck from rode his big fat *** by on horses with his buddies and they all spoke but not him. i started to fire my gun scaring the horse but i dont want anybody to get hurt but it did cross my mind . with his actions he is dodging me dont yall think so this is why there is more to the story i think and this truck may still be titled and never been junked but i have no way of ever knowing i dont know whats going on.. i really appericate the concerns fellas and information but this is a really big mess and one that i cant fight in court with im near broke barely making it and i think its over my head.im going to try to upload some pics of the truck on my profile for everyone to see. i think i already mentioned that i checked the frame and its a 55 frame but the local court house said that this frame had never been regestered in the state of kentucky. brothers said the truck was a 53 but the frame isn't however the cab might be a 53. remember i mentioned that they had three of these trucks some years ago. doc if i drag the sherriff and them into it im fearing that they might want to investigate the whole mess and they would likely impound the truck so im going to lose either way.

Have you called the guys brother and explain that you bought the truck and would like to get the title so you can fix it... He may not want his brother to have the title... but may be more helpful to you if you call... Also you can apply for a abandend title... Worth a try

yea i talked to him at advanced auto the other day ran into him he crazy as hell but assured me that he would help with getting it titled then he gave the title to his brother that i bought the truck from instead of calling or coming up here and giving it to me . he released the title but not the vin tag so its still messed up.i just tired of fooling with them and there games so thats why im considering moving it as a parts truck and letting some else away from here fix it.

Okay, so you're saying he "released the title but not the vin tag". Does that mean he gave you the title, but did not give you the vin tag. If that's the case, you're good to go. Don't worry about that vin tag. Just hurry up and get it titled. Trust me, nobody in OUR courthouse is gonna take the time to "inspect" the truck before they issue the title (my truck was home on jack stands with a stuck motor and no brakes whatsoever when I applied for my title). If by some miracle he tries to get a title using that VIN tag in the future, he won't be successful because you beat him to it (understand?). Don't worry about the frame. Just don't mention it. Call me if I'm totally wrong there. I lost your phone number. You've got my interest peaked along with everybody else's. I'd love to take a look at this truck.
