i have gotten this code a few times in the past. when i clear it out, it seems to go away for a few weeks. what do i do about this code? the truck runs good but in the morning or whenever the motor is cold, it idles really high and/or runs like crap. tps and iac are new. the o2 sensor is fairly new as well.
one website gave me this code meaning for 179: Fuel System Adaptive Lean Limit Is Reached (4.6L, 4.9L 5.0L, 5.8L, 7.0L & 7.5L)
my innova manual had two code meanings:
trucks only- HEGO (HO2S) sensor fault unable to switch/rich during part throttle
cars only- fual system at lean adaptive limit at partial throttle/system rich
Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). They are well known to develop leaks in the diaphragm which allows fuel to be pulled into the intake from the vacuum line. Pull it off check for signs of fuel by sight and smell.
If it appears to be good check the fuel pressure, it may be too high.
ok silly question, on the driver side where is the shrader valve located for hooking fuel testers and pressure gauges up to? and if i leave one hooked up and run it into the cab for a more permanent fixture will that hurt any thing at all or am i just playing with a ticking thermo nuclear warhead??

Just look at the fuel rail, unless your legally blind , you will see the valve, upfront, driver-side. Tape or tie it to the fresh air intake tube, if you want to leave it connected for a few days, while driving around looking for women.
As Slip ford man said the fuel pressure test port is on the driver side fuel rail. I would not use a mechanical fuel pressure gauge inside the cab for very long. IMHO it is a ticking time bomb.
i know...Im gonna look into rigging an electrical gauge some how...and could you post a pic of its location, not really sure what im lookin for honestly, havent crawled under to look at the fuel rails

The valve is near the distributor, look's just like the air valve on a bicycle tire...do not try to set up "an electrical gauge some how"
you only need install the gauge for diagnostic purpose, do not set up a permanent one. Gasoline is nothing to mess with, and electricity would act as a lit fuse.
