my 66 f 100 has a hurst h indy shifter in the floor, I think it is jammed, I did not have time to mess with it this weekend but I wanted to know if anyone had or could lead me to some installation instructions for the shifter so I can get it back on if I do more than unhook it to check the linkage.

Have you tried calling Hurst? Their website is www.hurst-shifters.com. Their phone is (818) 882-6422. They should be able to send you instructions for your shifter. Might have some you can simply download. They have a shifter rebuild program and probably have a tech guy available by phone and/or e-mail. Good luck.
-Do a visual for obvious stuff like broken/bent/debris etc
-Place the stick in neutral, and find a place on the shifter body to stick a 1/4" drill bit through--this is pretty standard--and it aligns the shifter and rods in neutral.
-Once you do that, check the shift arms on the trans to make sure they are in neutral. You should have threaded rods--hardened, black (probably rusty) rods, not all-thread or stock rods. You can turn the shift arm fitting to adjust it's position so it lines up properly.
-Check the retainers on the shift arms. The little spring clips Hurst handed out rust and break. Cotter key with washers can sub IIRC, make sure it's snug but not so tight it binds up.
-Check the shifts, again make sure parking brake or other under vehicle stuff doesn't hit or interfere.
If something is broken inside the shifter, or it's worn out, that's another story but I think that will become clear when you start fiddling with the drill bit.
