I wanna stay cheap but i also want it to be reliable. I have heard about welding it but i have heard some bad things about that. What would you guys suggest?

Buy a locker. Welding the gears together means that they cannot function properly so you will get a lot of popping and hopping when you turn.

Exactly...A locker....

Simple, effective...

Welding the gears will weaken the metal..And can cause you to lose control.....Not safe...

WHY do you need a locker in the first place?

A nice factory Limited Slip will serve the purpose...ESPECIALLY if it sees highway any....

On a side note...Given you weld the gears up, and DON'T break anything in the differential...The bearings, etc will be screaming....

Again, less hassle, money ahead, etc to either get LS diff rearend an swap out...Or get a locker....

Look and see how much you can get a trac lock diff for. Where I am from I can get one for $30.

If you want posi, get a locker. If you want limited slip, but better than the trac lock, then get the true-trac locker.

get an Aussie Locker. its a lunchbox design and can be installed by yourself and wont require having the ring and pinion reset by a shop. the locker will ratchet while turning which is nice. also this locker doesnt have a tire size restriction like the LockRite.
