Ratio Adaptor??

So I thought I was being quite clever using a cutoff wheel instead of a sawzall to remove the rotted sections of my floorboards, thinking I'd avoid the blade snagging any wires, etc that were underneath the cab. After congratulating myself on what looked like a (relatively) nice cut, you can imagine my disappointment when I looked under the cab and was greeted by a clear cross section view of my speedo cable. Apparently the cable is routed right along the floor. Anyway, I need to replace the lower section of my cable now and LMC lists two choices: with or without a ratio adaptor. How do I know if I have a ratio adaptor? What does it look like?

My truck is an '82 F250 4wd Lariat, 400, C6, with cruise control. Thanks!

Why not just go to the local Autozone and pick one up? I didn't look your exact truck up but they have them for other years. That way you can take yours down and match it up. I know LMC truck has a lot of stuff, but some of it is sold by the local stores and I always check there first to save trouble and shipping.

If it's a solid run, you dont have a ratio adapter.

Don't bother with LMC buy from our sponsors or a good local parts store! I got mine at autozone for $$ cheap!

I think what they refer is likely for the cruise control, which determines if you have one long cable or two shorter ones.

Not all cruise. A lot of these trucks use a sensor at the trans or transfer case depending on the year.

The "Ratio Adapter" is a offset adapter that mounts to the transmission where the speed odometer cable goes and the cable attaches to it. It is kinda 'Z' shaped.
I have not saw one on a transmission in a Ford for many years. I have on bow ties vehicles a lot.

They were used on many old vehicles with generators and attached to the end of the generator and were used to drive a mechanical tac!

OK - for anyone following along at home, NAPA #615-1646 worked perfectly. A little longer than what was in there but no sweat. 5 minute swap once I got the correct cable (third time was the charm) and about $25 locally. Thanks for the help!
