So my power steering rack on the Jag IFS leaks. In it's defense, it was sitting in the junkyard for a long time before I gave it a new life under my truck. It's the only part on the subframe that I didn't rebuild or replace. Friend O' mine said to add a tiny amount of brake fluid to the power steering fluid, just a half of a capful. That'll make the seal swell and might stop the leak. I tried it and the leak is significantly reduced. Yeah! Then I get a puddle of ps fluid under the truck, but it's not under the rack. The tank of the GM ps pump has sprung a leak at a seam! Who would believe that the british part leaks less that the GM part that feeds it....
Wow, thats frustrating. Interesting tip on the brake fluid.
I have the Toyo box hooked to a GM pump. I get a drip now and again under my truck. The Toyo box will occasionally drip, not enough to really be able to tell where its coming from but enough to make a wet spot on the garage floor....ugh
The reservoirs on the GM pumps are fairly easy to reseal. You pull the pump off the truck, remove the pressure regulator (fitting for pressure line) tap the reservoir off and install a new "O" ring.
