Today I noticed that the tail shaft housing of my transfer case is leaking oil. My question is this; can I just remove the drive shaft and pull the tail shaft housing as to reseal the housing?
The tail shaft appears to be dry and clean but the joint where the the tail shaft housing meets the transfer case, is leaking. Just was wondering if the tail could be removed by itself with out a big deal. Any pics would be great if you have em.
I don't know a whole lot about the transfer case on an F-150, but I replaced the slip yoke (tail shaft) on my JEEP with a slip yoke elimination kit. My sister's F-150 slip yoke is now leaking. I was on looking for info on fixing it. According to another forum, and info from taking my JEEP apart you (or we) should be able to remove the drive shaft (with the slip yoke) and replace the seal. Might need to remove the tail section of transfer case. Shouldn't be too difficult. Anyone out there done this?
