Why is it blown?

I only ask because this is not very likley with these engine, and have had several topics come up over time where a mechanic told th customer he had a bad engine when that wasnt the case.

I would look at junkyards honestly. A low-mid milage engine can be had very cheap. These Triton (Modular) ford motors are very robust.

i found a junk yard that said they could get me an engine with 150k miles on it. would cost me 2500 installed. or, i could get a rebuilt for 5000. trying to decide which to do.

That ebay one that phil posted is not a bad deal.

Personally I found a 5.4l for $1500 with 60k miles a couple of years ago at the junk yard.

I got a junk yard 5.4L last year for around $900 delivered, had 120K miles I think, oil pressure and compression were all good. From this yard:
eBay My World - nordstromsautoinc

From memory I was quoted in the $4K-$5K range for a shop to buy and put a reman in. Think the engine was $3K alone.

If you do happen to go that route and do it yourself make sure you have your old engine out before you buy the new, you'll eat up your warranty time period otherwise. I didn't have problems but if I did I would have been SOL on the return period.
