transmission pan gasket

So I had what was probably the original factory reusable gasket, and the pan is stamped that it comes equipped with such. After the big tow moving across the country I bought a filter kit and proceeded to change the filter and fluid. The kit came with a rubber gasket and I thought "oh isn't that fancy, the last one I got didn't come with one". Well, I was less than careful about getting the pan down and did nick the reusable gasket. I went ahead and slapped on the new one after taking forever to clean the old one off. Now, a couple days later, I was cleaning up in the shop, and there in the bottom of the kit was a little slip of paper stating that I had better not ever use the rubber gasket that came with the kit if my truck was equipped with the reusable gasket! and that I better get in touch with the manufacturer to get the right one. It seems fine...but I haven't put it under any tremendous load. It didn't seem like it was too big and going to leave excess on the inside once I torqued it down. It doesn't leak. Not sure why it could possibly pose a risk, but thought I would ask if anyone had any ideas of why this could fail.

Thanks, good to know it isn't some instant death weirdness, though I can't imagine for the life of me how they could engineer that in.

The gaskets in the kit are notorious for leaking. That's the only reason they say to use the factory reusable if it has one. I silicone the **** out of the throw-a-way ones if I have to use them. Its not going to cause any catastrophic failure or anything though. Just may or may not start seeping a bit

I agree with liv, there junk. If at all possible use the reuseable one. I had nothing but leaks with the cheap ones. I even use the 'right stuff' on the reuseable one.

Okay, old post, but if the transmission has a visual oil leak, wouldn't that mean that the gasket is necessarily bad?

Sometimes the bolts just need snugged down. The gasket can squish a little after it gets hot and cold a few times.
