help!

i have 1978 f-150 4x4 as a daily driver. i do all my own work but my front axle housing is leaking from my driver side. i pulled out my axle to replace my u joints. i have looked every were an talked to all my local mechanics and they are stumped. can some please tell me were or if there is an outer seal is an were is a place to buy them

thanks but i dont no much bout front ends so what would i be looking for? this is my first 4x4 so i learning as i go

my 44 does not have outter seals, just the ones inside the pumpkin.

how does the gear oil stay in? it only leaks out wen i drive it but sitting there in doesn't even drip so i am lost.

Your inner seals keep the oil in. I bet when your driving, the spinning of the axle is drawing the oil out to where it can drip. You have to take apart the diff to replace those two seals.

^^ What he said. Google "D44 inner axle seal replacement" or similar and you will find step by step info. You can click on the link for my 79 build and you can see what I did to replace them.

There are two different front driving axle seals, as it depends on the production date.

The original seal should have a ID number marked on it. Any autoparts store can give you the correct seal by the number.

1978 F150 4WD & Bronco before 6/1978: D3TZ-3254-A .. Axle Seal / Marked: 36913.

1978 F150 4WD & Bronco from 6/1978; 1979 F150 4WD & Bronco: D8TZ-3254-A .. Axle Seal / Marked: 620257.

Make sure the vent is clear it might just be plugged up.

i looked at it was stoped up lets hope this a quick fix
