My '03 F250 is experiencing intermittent problems engaging reverse. When I shift into reverse, I have to rev the engine for reverse to engage. It only appears to happen after I've driven home from work, 30 miles, let the truck sit for a few minutes, and attempt to pull out of the driveway. I've discovered that if reverse does not engage, I can shift into drive, which engages, then back into reverse. This usually allows reverse to engage. Has anyone else experienced this?
I think you may have a damaged seal in the reverse clutch. It could also be loose feed bolts between the valve body and trans case. Or going with the simple possibility, low trans fluid could do this, too.
