ok i just ordered my cam and well i bought the wrong one i guess but ima half to live with it what do i half to do to make a .514 lift cam to work? i have the lifters that came with it. i was told i had to shim stuff... well how and where can i shim the stuff that needs to be shimmed. Please help asap trying to get this together quick as i can all i have is (oil pump, .030 pistons, I bean connecting rods, .030 rings, cam bearings, lifters, and a cam so far)
you better check with the guy's that made the cam ..you have to check for coil bind ..piston clearance..rocker centering ..pushrods and other stuff if you dont want things colliding ..the hot rod shop will have books on cams and how to set it up...you have a heck of a project in front of you ...514 sounds damm big ..what are you aiiming for ..can't you go back and exchange it ?? most cam manufactures want you happy ..to big is not gonna make you happy ..ask them an see what happens..
Gotta agree on this. Lots of work. You may also need different pistons with valve reliefs. The truck may not run as you plan too. To much cam can lower the vacuum amount below what is needed for the engine operation also. I would get it swapped.
well i know that it is really big i was looking for a .495 but i dnt wana go buying new pistons or anything if i half to use the 514.... i am building my truck for the boggs next year but it wouldnt work still if i went ahead and got some durable double spring valves with the roller rockers?
No matter what, you need to verify that the valve train will operate properly without hitting pistons and such. If everything has the clearance, then get the system set up properly.
