New cam after boring?

I am getting ready to rebuild a 351C EFI, and was wondering if the cylinders are worn and I have them bored out a little and get bigger pistons, would I need a new cam? I doesn't seem like I would, but every time I read a post about someone boring cyliders the next line is about a new cam. I don't plan on getting a new crank, so I assume I wouldn't need a new cam, right? If you couldn't tell, this is the first engine I have torn apart all the way, so add any info you want.

Thanks,

Longneck

You're right. If it looks ok you can reuse it. make sure you put the lifters back in the holes they came out of.

You or your machine shop can compare your cam dimensions with the specs and then decide if you want to re-use it. If your bearing journals are worn even new cam bearings may not allow your oil pressure to build up to where it should be. It might be a good idea to get new lifters even if you re-use the cam. They can die on you at the worst times. I just bought a new cam and lifters from Comp Cams for about $ 200. Depending on your budget, this may be a small price to pay for peace of mind. Good luck!

OK, just making sure I wasn't missing something. You make a good point about having the machine shop check things out, they definately know more than I do. I think I will probably replace the lifters as long as I have everything torn apart.
