I cut a hole behind the plate to mess with my backup camera and other wiring. The hole needs to be close to the top to do much good. You can do it without the hole but you will need more hands.

I did not have to cut the hole. There's enough room between the hitch and the bumper to get a hand through and put the bolts in. Its a nice fit and now i just need to drill the holes for the sensor and undercoat the backside of the bumper.
Got the sensors and bumper installed and when the truck is in reverse it continues to beep even though there's nothing close to the bumper at all.
Did I damage one or some of the sensors? I was really being careful during removal and installation. Sensors are clean. Does the sensors have to be parallel to the ground to make these things work? Right now they are kinda ****-eyed. I just followed how the sensors were installed on the old bumper and ended up not parallel to the ground. Pls help. Thx.

Figure out the problem yet? Seems to me if the sensors aren't square/parallel to the ground at the original height, the field of view of the sensor may be detecting the pavement below. Just a thought...

I have not had the time to go back and check everything. Unfortunately when I followed the contour of the bumper to match the trim rings they ended up not parallel to the ground and probably thats what's causing this issue. I will pull the bumper off and check the connectors as well.
This is problem is not consistent. I pulled into my work parking lot this morning (this happened yesterday too) and backed up to my spot and it beeped rapidly for about 2 seconds and the beeping completely went away. So I kept on backing up and tried to get really close to the car behind me and the sensor detected the car. So I'm not sure what to think of it now.
Any thoughts?? I 'll keep on tesing these sensors to see if they are consistent or not.
disconnect all but one sensor and test with your hand or walk behind it....
then do another, etc... to isolate the problem child ....
From all the reading I've done regarding sensor issues, correct me if I'm wrong, it sounded like all 4 sensors need to be plugged in inorder for the system to work.
Thanks a lot, makes a lot of sense. How much were the trim rings?
You think these black painter bumper will hold up to the salt abuse during winter months? I was thinking of spraying at least the back part of the bumper with some truck bed liner or something to that effect.
Your Ex looks great!! Awesome job.
I have an Eddie Bauer blue with the tan cladding. Would the black bumper look OK? As you can see paint bubbles are pretty bad.
I'm going to comment and revive this thread...I don't think a black bumper would look good on your Eddie Bauer. Keep it beige
I was also thinking about this thread the other day... I backed into a stack of plywood at a job site and it gently rubbed the cladding in the rear and did no damage at all, didnt' even scratch it. I think if it had hit sheet metal it would have left a ding. I will keep mine, though at least mine is a limited so its all one color and no big gay chrome bumpers or multicolor cladding.
Holy crap that is a huge D-ring, where did you get that?
Its a 35-ton lifting shackle. Got it from eBay for $25 about 4 years. Starting bid was $10 and fortunately i was only that bid on it. Shipping was another $15 -- flat rate large box from USPS. By the time it was delivered to my home, the box was just about destroyed.
This is actually my second shackle -- the first got stolen off the truck. That was my fault. I did not have the locking pin on the hitch at that time. I just did not think someone would actually steal a shackle. Now this one is always locked.
