Brake Line Help

Hey all, I am a new member to your great website, finally a place for reliable info. I have an extremely bad back and can not afford rip off garage's but I don't mind paying a little more for a better product. I just got finished helping a friend of mine do the front brake lines on my 94 Bronco XLT 5.8, then the rear blew out. When I looked underneath it appeared that the line in the frame? blew, there is also another line next to the frame snapped that went to the rear at one point. I do not know which is the original, I just bought my truck, I have always wanted one of these lol. Anyway, what is the easiest reliable way to run a line from the block to the rear? what line should i use? should i just replace all lines? do they make a braided line that runs the length all the way to rear? any help would be great, and thanks all

I had a leaking brake line on my '89. Corroded through just ahead of the rear axle. I bought a 4ft piece of same size steel brake line from local auto parts store, carefully bent it to match the old one, from the end fitting in front of the fuel tank. Them used a good tubing cutter cut the line and flared the old one. I think I got the splice fitting from same place. I've heard of people using a compression fitting to do this but I haven't had any long term luck with these.

ok thanks, will most likely start this tomorrow, so start from the rear and move toward the front? also, should I make a new path rather then go through the frame like the original? I hate asking so many questions, I do not usually mess w/brake jobs myself, this will be the first. what is a splice fitting? so far I have only ran into the standard 3/16th fitting. thanks

compression fittings are not safe on brake lines ,because of the higher pressure .you can get lines made to replace yours , generally at a hydraulic shop..bring in your old line and they can make it to match..if that is not an option you can get 2 long premade lines with a double flare connector ,if your line has rusted out ..check your fuel lines as well ..they run side by side .. preventative maintenance...as it were ..and your flex lines ..check them as well that they are not badly cracked ..so what is your truck ??how long you had it ??what are you gonna do next ??and ....OH yah ..welcome to the fold ..!!!

Hey thanks for the info, first off, ive always wanted a bronco, an old friend of mine had an 88 with a 6" lift with mickey's twas nice lol, mine is a 94 xlt with all the extras, quad suspension, 100k, and ive had it about 2 months. Im not gonna go over board with it cuz it will be the family truck but after the brake lines are done and assuming the other lines are fine i'm probably gonna look at intake and exhaust options and then a decent sound system because i never keep a stock stereo lol. thanks

Welcome to FTE. I have never done brake line work so will pass on it.

You mentioned some intake and exhaust work in the future on the 5.8. I have noticed the 5.0 owners do that more than the 5.8. May I suggest you pull codes and get the engine running like new again first and you will probably be happy with that. Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Copper plugs are the favorite. The 94 5.8 was the first year with roller lifters which is good.

One other way if you are handy and patient, Order 20ft of stainless steel brake line from Eastwood or a similar aftermarket co., and make your own lines. $84 for 20ft, $32 for the correct flare tool, and you'll end up with a custom job that will never fail because of corrosion, in our lifetime anyway. Just a sugestion Here's a link.
