can a mod/admin sticky this topic for future reference on buzzers, Ill be posting my pictures of the buzzers tomorrow when I got my camera fully charged as well so people will have my pics to add to the reference as well!!!

also just a side question, the smaller pin (pin 7 I call it, the one alone thats kinda narrower then the rest thats slightly bent up) was bent whats that pin for?? is that the light on pin or is that for the seat belt or what?

About your bent pin, I really don't remember what it's for; the color of the wire the pin connects to would tell us.

The pin shouldn't be bent, though.

If the wire color is brown, that's used for the headlights-on functionality.

 

ok ill grab the wire color in the morning/tomorrow for ya, but this pin was bent all the way back si i had to use a screwdriver to unbent it a bit then use needle nose pliers to straighten it out, as for what it did, before i fixed the pin headlights worked ok for dinger...I will rebend it with one of my test units and see what goes away LOL!!!

oh if you want, I can also do a mini write up (altho most of what i would put is covered as is) on the different buzzers, and on that note is there a list of the different wire colors and what they are for the buzzer plug (7 pin) and I could go and decipher them my self?

 

I use a factory wiring diagram to figure out what the wires are for, and that's sometimes only in a general sense.

For example, I know brown feeds all the running & marker lamps; light green/yellow stripe is always-on power for things like clock memories; light blue/red stripe is dimmable cluster & controls lighting.

Stuff like that. I have to go to the wiring diagrams to figure out what things such as black/blue stripe, etc. are for.

 

ah ok, well Ill get you the list of wire colors so we can put what to what and then tack that into this thread ok, I looked and its the pin to the brown wire which im guessing is the lights on function of the buzzer thats missing

 

There are two seperate buzzer configurations 1984-1986.

A: One only has the function for the seatbelt with no headlamp buzzer.

B: The other has both for seatbelt and headlamp buzzer in one unit.

Both are swappable and plug into the same exact connector, as all 1984-1986 trucks are wired for a headlamp on buzzer. Just the buzzer itself is different.

This is why some have 6 pins and some have 7. 6 pin, seat belt and key in ignition only, 7 pin same as 6 pin but has headlamp on function.

1980-1983 is a different kettle of fish and is more complex. These years use two seperate buzzers and you need the courtesy light underdash harness extention to plug into the main harness to get a headlamp on buzzer. This plugs into one of the connectors underneath the dash by the clock connector. 1980-1982 uses one type underdash courtesy lamp harness. 1983 is one year only for it's underdash courtesy harness, and 1984-1986 is yet again different still.

1984-1986:

1: Black/Pink hash wire: From Turn signal switch: Key in ignition buzzer.
2: Red/Yellow Hash: Main Power for seat belt warning function.
3: Red/Pink Stripe: From driver door courtesy lamp switch
4: Brown: Headlamp switch: Tail and Parklamp circut: For headlamp on buzzer
5: Brown/Light Blue stripe: Seat Belt Buckle Switch: Inside the driver seat belt buckle. Turns off the seat belt buzzer if the seat belt is fastened.
6: Dark Green/Light Green Stripe: To Fasten Belt Warning Lamp
7: Black: Comon Ground: Ground for buzzers.

-4: Black: Ground

B: Headlamp On Warning Buzzer: (Exterior Lamp Warning Buzzer) White
-1: Red/Pink Stripe: Driver Door Courtesy Lamp Switch
-2: Brown: Headlamp switch parking or taillamp circut: (When both circut one and two are hot, the buzzer sounds: IE open driver door with headlamps on)
-3: Black: Ground.

 

The liners and glove box doors were the same for A/C in the F-600/F-900s as well, all the way to 1999. Because the firewall is different for the F-600/F-900 not sure about the Non A/C ones. Haven't came across any lately.

 

ok picked one off ebay (fleabay as i like to call it) and here is the one, it should be a 7 pin unit so it should have the function I am looking for...

ok, thing just arrived (yay) and its the 7 pin so solved my issue of leaving lights on (thankfully most are converted over to the LEDs so power draw is now minimal)

also can an admin append this to the 89-96 tech tips since this also can cover those year trucks too please?

 

You need to ask the 87-96 mods to do that (make changes to their stickies over there).

 

I am currently working on fixing a buzzer on my truck, would you happen to have the part #'s for both of those buzzers so I can find some replacements? I have a 1980 f100.

 

For my 1984 Ford xlt F150 4x4 here is what I bought on ebay. perfect replacement. Its a buzzer. It's located above the glove box. You may have to remove the glove box insert to get to it. Mine was right there by the upper latch.

Hello. I saw this thread and figured that I would take a stab at trying to make the door buzzer/chime work on my 1986 XLT Lariat. I checked the fuse (#18 in the owner's manual) and it was good and everything that runs from it works. I then proceeded to look for the door buzzer/chime in the truck. I started looking at the glove box. I took out the plastic insert (aka the glove box) and looked up toward the glove box latch. I saw nothing that resembled the parts shown in the string above. So I figured that it must be located near the steering column. Again I crawled under the dash and looked up under the dash. Nothing really "jumped" out at me other than the attached photo below. This piece does not look like any of the others shown in the string above and I assume (as I am very much a novice at these things) that the part I am showing is not part of the buzzer/chime set up. My untrained eye tells me it looks more like a code reading portal. But, heck, I could be wrong.

The bottom line is I cannot find the bloody thing in the truck. So after twisting myself up like some Yoga instructor for 20 minutes under the dash I gave up, went inside, and had a beer.
So I ask my fellow Ford brothers for help.

Hola, amigo. The truck is a 1986 XLT Lariat. The wires are in pairs of the same color. Two White, two green, two grey and two purple. The all go into the white plastic piece. I just crawled back under the truck and pulled out the white plastic piece and found out that the PO has cut the two white and two grey wires (see photo below). I can only assume that whatever they did the PO did not like it. Hope his helps solve the mystery.
