if we're right about the year that feature was introduced in trucks (seems to be 1984) then it didn't come out of the factory that way.

 

ok how much effort will be required to remove the glove box? what bolts will i need to pop out? or should I just go to the PAP and smash up a glove box out of a doner truck, and what specific year should I tag and bag from? im looking more for the buzzer for the lights/key in/on feature(s) others can be supplemented on the crappy bell...but i would like to ****** both buzzers and rig them to work (prefer plug and play if possible)

 

If you have a stubby screwdriver, not much at all. There are about 8 screws holding the box in. If I recall correctly, remove those, and you should be able to wiggle it out. Be careful if you have the paper glove box though, they're easy to crumple.

The connector was most likely just put over there by a previous owner. If I recall correctly, my F100 never had the extra connector for the headlamp on buzzer. I believe that connector came with the light group wiring for the ashtray and courtesy lights. I think all of those options were combined into one taped harness which then plugged into one of the accessory connectors behind or beside the HVAC controls.

Okay, just saw the photos you posted ctubutis, my buzzer is a solitary GREEN buzzer underneath the dash of my truck near the glove box, and it's an '83.

I guess my truck only has a seat belt buzzer then. Mine's just an XL so that's liable to be all it came with. I'll look underneath some more tomorrow and see what I see.

As Shaun said, a stubby Phillips screwdriver is all you need if you're interested in preserving the glove box liner.

Some are made of cardboard and are fragile enough at this point that they tear real easy; just pull the top of the box down, it will tear pretty easily, then reach your hand up above the latch.

As was said earlier, at some point (1984?) Ford combined the two into one unit and came up with a key-in-ignition buzzer.

That single unit physically contains two buzzer elements.

Anyhoo....

Ford decided to make two variants of those single units - I believe one has the Headlights-On Warning buzzer (an optional feature) and one doesn't.

Here are two shots of the black one, this one has got one extra lead that connects to the brown wire in the plug which would be for the Headlights On Warning:

I believe that's how all that works, somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

If I were you, I'd get a few of both the black & white in case one doesn't work entirely for some reason.

 

My 1981 XLT had both buzzers. I diconnected the seat belt one but left the headlight
buzzer on. It warned me this morning when I went to work and left the headlights on
on a foggy morning.

 

ok ill try to see if my truck has one, but the black one would that be plug and play into what I have now? and would anyone happen to have one I could either trade for or buy from them? or perhaps a part number and a source I could reference for the black buzzer unit? (two in one)? Brutis, mine is a '95 so I wont have the things above the glove box, I just figured the older trucks then any of the '90's+ would have buzzers but still glad to know the dual box is gonna be PNP, now I just hope to either score one from the PAP or trade someone for one...

 

The combined headlight/seatbelt buzzer for the later models - the "all in one" black box is F2TB-10D840-AA (according to the Ebay poster) and there is one listed on Ebay right now for 39.99 and shipping. I put in "Ford buzzer" and found it.

Just did the same change myself about three weeks ago (donor was a 1997 F350 XLT Crew Cab in the local salvage) and WOW! why didn't I do this years ago - no more dead batteries from forgetting the lights in the daytime, and the chime is Much more pleasant than the nasty old buzzer!

I found this one up under the center of the dash, more to the driver's side on the 1997 model. I highly recommend the change. F250HD Custom.

 

My 84 has the key in ignition buzzer....although it only works if you slam the glove box closed.

 

would NOS 79-86 Merkur Mustang T-Bird Seat Belt Buzzer Switch | eBay be exactly what I am needing? if so i may just ****** this up...assuming it will make the annoying buzzer sound

D7AZ is the prefix the same unit was used starting in late 1976 on f series , E series , Pinto,LTD,Maverick,Ranchero and Bronco. So this can open your options up a bit!!!

the part numbers for the units im looking at are the following:

E4TZ-924-A and SW-1822 (black)
E3EB10B924AA (white)
E43B-10B924-AB (black that says it fits mustang/mercury 79-86)

 

Your 1995 Truck is only wired for the single, modern, seven pronged combined buzzer. Nothing older than the single pigtail type will work correctly, as I understand it.

But the same buzzer was indeed used in many different ford vehicles - just find your pigtail (left center of dash) look at the harness connector and then locate a black box that fits it from a late Eighties into the Nineties Ford Vehicle (particularly Deluxe Models and you should get the combined Chime box. That's my understanding, anyway. F250HD Custom.

I went to take my truck for a spin last night and checked it. I could have SWORN it used to have a buzzer when the door was open and the key in the ignition. Sigh. It sucks to get old. I don't know why people do it. I don't see much of a future in it
