, Went ouside just now, and saw a 4in puddle, looked around underneath, and saw it drip from the valve cover lip. Opened hood, and saw the metal stem, dripping coolant. Anyone else have this problem? I like the idea, but is there a more efficient unit to use, minus the ball valve setup.
had the same problem...changed to ball valve. just got 5/8 hose connectors for the ranger thingy and a ball valve with 5/8 barbs...cost like 10 bucks. has been working great

Was that a 74809 valve that failed? That's what I used.
Have you considered the valve that comes standard on the excursions? It only hooks to one line and we've got a 01' ex with 238,000 on it and never a drip! However I did just install a ranger valve on my sd and hope I don't have your issue! How old is yours, and is it oem or parts house brand?
Bulla, its been installed for about 4 months, tops. Never an issue, thought it worked, the way it should, but think, the system just needs to be freoned. Then this morning, WHAM, at first, i thought it was the coolant plug on motor, til i saw the drip from the valve cover, looked uptop, and there she is, dripping in ma face.
Because the valve i used, i'll need to barb hose the one, to use the excursion one. Thing is, my buddys 01/02, cant remember year, but he gots one installed. Not sure if it was std or by the P.O.
Gonna hit Depot tonight, and cap it all until i get anutha valve, or whatever i figure out.
02's would have them standard, IIRC, I know they are available at the parts store for an 02 but they were more expensive than the valve for the ranger's
My oem one was only $26 bucks. Figured it was worth the shot. Even though the part says made in Mexico, I still try and stay away from part store parts. I wonder if the quality control is just not up to snuff?

Alan, 6thanks for that. I was looking to do this mod on my 03 and when I looked under the hood, i noticed a valve that looks like it might be used to achieve the same effect. I thought maybe the previous owner already did the mod but if it's standard equipment, all the better.
