IDI vs powerstroke

What year did the powerstroke start in these pickups? I am going to look at a 1994 turbo 7.3L F250 tomorrow and was wondering what was better of the two and how to tell them apart. other than the obvious badges and what not...

1994 was the first year of the Powerstroke. But it was "midyear". Round fuel filter housing in the front center up top of the engine is a quick giveaway. IDI turbo is good but the Powerstroke is much better. IMHO. The boost on the IDI does help but most are much happier with the DI engine. Let the debates begin.

The easiest way to find out what type of motor the truck has. is look right under neth the F250 emblem and below it if it says "powerstroke diesel" chances are likely it has a powerstroke.

I'm hoping it's the powerstroke. But we will see tomorrow. Even if it's not, it'll do what we need it to.... Like drive and haul wood and push snow and not be broke down in my driveway with a bad motor that I can't get to run right.

I digress. Sorry for the tangent. This other rig has given me trouble since we've had it. Hence why I am looking at yet another truck

I've had both. Loved my IDI and was a beast for torque. Still going at 270000.

if it's the older IDI,you'll still be pleased with her for hauling wood and plowing snow.
i sure am,and mines just n/a.she goes just fine.the guy who sold it to me said it had more nuts than his (same body style.so 94.5-97) psd.but of course being n/a clearly i knew his psd was just in need of something.
anyway, the good part about the idi's = cheap to fix! to top it off, stupid simple to repair with everything in plain site.no emissions.
a set of 8 brand new injectors will only set ya back a couple hundred bucks, and takes about 1 hour max to change 'em for example.
one hot wire required to get her going on fuel shut off solenoid.like all of them, they've all got their weak and strong points.my first diesel truck and im totally enjoying this thing.
