i just got a 1999 explorer with 198562mi on the clock it needs a couple small things done to it but i cant figure out how to get the raido antena off to replace it also any one know where to get one to replace it with other than a junk yard?
manual antenna, i figured it would be a easy fix but i cant figure out how it comes off, i tought the antenna would just screw to the base but it doesnt seem to want to turn
It should just be threaded on to the mount. Maybe the previous owner used thread locker on it. Once you get the mast unscrewed, you'll need a spanner wrench (or open needle nose pliers) to unthread the mount from the fender.
i will see what i can do i figured it just un screwed but i just couldnt get it to turn. the mount is fine just the mast is broken leaving a 1/4 stub to try to turn out.
You'll need to get a few additional bits, but yes, you could replace it with a manual antenna. You'll first need to remove the existing antenna motor assembly which will probably require you to remove the wheel well liner, unplug the motor assembly (motor control and antenna coax), unscrew the trim ring/retainer that is on top of the fender, unbolt the antenna motor assembly, then remove the whole thing. From there you'll need to buy the antenna mast assembly and hope that it has a connector for the antenna coax that's already there. If not, you'll need to route the antenna coax from the assembly to the back of the radio.
