Okay guys, I know this may seem ridiculous, but I have a silly question. Is the o ring on the oil filter cap supposed to be visible after you put the cap back on? I guess I never paid attention before when I changed it before. The o ring squeezed out twice on me this last time, and I had my brother helping me. He insisted it needs to be down inside. So he kept tightening it until it went in and the plastic ridge on the cap touched the metal. I was sure it was going to crack, but so far so good. He did the same thing to the fuel filter cap. I need to find out so I can back it back out if I need to, before it breaks. I've not had problems with leaks before, but this time has been a pain in the butt. thanks in advance for any help on this
Thanks...I thought the o ring was squeezed between the cap ridge and cylinder that created the seal, guess maybe I was wrong. I just didn't remember having to crank it down so hard the last time I changed it.
The o-ring should NOT be sticking out. It goes down in the housing just a bit, not right under the lip of the cap. A new o-ring comes with every filter because the old o-ring will swell and not fit correctly.
I used NAPA oil filter once. Never again. The NAPA oil filter had a Cap attached to it.
It leaked.
I had saved the OEM cap. Purchased a OEM filter and installed with the OEM cap.
My local Ford Tech. said he had seen several NAPA oil filter caps leak.
